Compress Image to 20KB

Reduce a photo or signature to under 20KB for online forms. Free, instant, and private: your image never leaves your device.

🔒 Files never leave your device

A 20KB limit is common for signatures and thumbnail photos on government, exam and job application forms. Drop your image here and it will be brought under 20KB at the best quality possible.

How to use the Compress to 20KB tool

  1. Choose or drop one or more images (JPG, PNG or WebP).
  2. Set the target size in KB, or keep the preset.
  3. The tool finds the highest quality that fits under your limit, and only shrinks the pixel dimensions if it has to.
  4. Download each compressed image.

Frequently asked questions

Will a 20KB photo still look OK?

For a headshot or a signature around 200 to 400 pixels wide, yes. If you start with a large phone photo, it will be scaled down to fit under 20KB.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs inside your browser using the built-in Canvas API. Your files never leave your device, and the tool keeps working if you go offline after the page loads.

Why is the result a JPG instead of a PNG?

JPG and WebP let us adjust quality in small steps, which is what makes hitting an exact size possible. PNG is lossless, so it can't be squeezed down to a chosen size the same way.

What happens if my target size is too small?

If the lowest quality setting is still too large, the tool reduces the width and height in steps until the file fits. The final dimensions are shown next to each result.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent areas become white. Pick WebP as the output format to keep transparency.
