How to share your WiFi with a QR code
Reading out a long WiFi password letter by letter is nobody's favorite job. A WiFi QR code lets guests point their camera at it and join instantly. Both iPhones and Android phones can scan these codes with the built-in camera app.
Make a printable WiFi QR code
Best for homes, offices, cafés and holiday rentals, where you want the code on the fridge, a desk card or a welcome sheet.
- Open the WiFi QR Code Generator.
- Enter your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears, including capital letters, and the password.
- Choose the security type. It's almost always WPA/WPA2/WPA3; pick None only for an open network.
- Download the PNG to print, or the SVG for a large, sharp print.
Everything is generated in your browser: your WiFi password isn't sent to any server. Test the code with your own phone before printing it.
Show a code from your phone
iPhone (iOS 18 or later): open the Passwords app, tap Wi-Fi, choose your network and tap Show Network QR Code.
Android: most phones can show a QR code for the network you're connected to. Open your WiFi settings, tap your network (or the gear icon next to it) and look for Share or QR code. You may need to confirm with your fingerprint or PIN.
Is it safe?
A WiFi QR code contains your password in plain text, so anyone who scans it can join, and could read the password with a QR app. That's fine for a code you hand to guests, but:
- Don't post the code publicly, such as on social media or in a window facing the street.
- For homes and offices with lots of visitors, consider a separate guest network on your router, and make the QR code for that.
- If you change your WiFi password, print a new code. The old one stops working.
The code won't scan
- Check the network name and password for typos. They're case-sensitive.
- Print it at least 3 × 3 cm and keep a white border around it.
- Hidden network? Tick Hidden network when creating the code.
